Seriously.... Just Shoot Me!

After the zoo, I didn't get a chance to walk again before I came down with bronchitis 2 days later. Yes... bronchitis... that I've been fighting for 2 weeks! And today I apparently cracked a rib from all the damn coughing! I kid you not.... I'm 99% sure I cracked a rib.

So needless to say, I need to recover from the bronchitis and the cracked rib before my lungs can handle walking - and walking in the cold weather.

Fear not - I have not given up! Once I've recovered, I will be on the street again! I'm actually missing my walking more than I would have thought after just 3 walks. So stay tuned... I'll be back shortly.

In the mean time - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Lions, And Tigers, And (no) Bears.... OH MY!

Yesterday's walk was brought to you by the Franklin Park Zoo.

Decided to have a change of scenery for my walk yesterday so Team Holm took off for the zoo for the day. Lots of walking and lots of animals and lots of fun!

King of the Jungle
I had 2 favorites. The first one was the lion. Eric and I agreed he looked old and sad, but he still looked majestic! I can only imagine what running in to him in the wild would be like.

My other favorite were the gorillas. I could have sat there all day with one of them. When we got to one of the glass look-throughs, he was there hanging out and decided to sit a while. I swear he was checking out Megan's sneakers when we got there. She had a good time telling him about her sneakers and we sat for quite a while with him - longer than any other animal at the zoo. We got to see 3 adults along with a little one who turned 1 a few weeks ago and her mom.
Megan showing her sneakers to her new friend.

I hadn't been to the zoo in many years, so it was a nice thing to experience with the girls. They loved the animals and loved walking around and interacting with all of the different things. We had a visit from some peacocks during lunch - I don't think the girls liked that so much! But Megan shared a fry with one of them and she warmed up a little bit to them.

If I could have a walk like this, I'd walk every single day! So much fun! Hopefully we can get back there again before our membership expires at the end of February.

Who are these animals??

Even kings need naps.

My little superstar!

Day 3 - A New Record!

3 days in a row of exercise is a record for me - granted there was a bit of a hiatus due to the storm, but it wasn't because I gave up this time! I know.... 3 days being a record is pretty pathetic, but that was the past and this is the now!

It was uber hard to get out of bed this morning. Took me 4 or 5 snoozes and I didn't leave the house until almost 7:30. It was interesting to see the storm damage from that angle and speed. TONS of branches on the side of the road. Saw a cherry tree up the street in someone's yard that got the ax - literally.

Sunday will probably be a later walk since I'm alone with the girls in the morning and I can't exactly leave them alone can I. Wait..... can I??

Time To Rethink This....

You thought I quit didn't ya?

We lost power at about 3am on Sunday and the roads have been a mess, so I put my walking/running on hold for a bit. It's also given me time to reconsider what I'm doing. There's a long road nearby (Route 49 for you locals) that has large breakdown lanes and I'm thinking about driving out there, walking and then coming home when there's snow on the roads. That way I don't have to deal with my road during the snow this winter.

For now though, the snow has cleared on my street, so I plan to get back out there tomorrow morning! Stay tuned.....

Oh - and we finally got our power back last night around dinner time - YEA!!!!

Day 2... I'm still alive!

Day 2 in the bag!

It was a little tough going because it snowed here last night, so the street was a little slippery. I walked on peoples' yards where possible. Almost fell a few times. Falling while walking down the street - that'd SO be a Lindsay move! I walked the same distance in less time. Suppose I should up my distance on Sunday morning, eh? (Oh yeah - I just pulled out the "eh")

Walking in the cold was kind of nice. Woke me up a little that's for sure!

Why didn't any of you tell me I was going to need tissues??? The second I start walking, it's like a faucet was turned on! Maybe I'll go old school and get a hankie.....

I guess congrats need to go out to the Cards for forcing Game 7. Poor Rangers..... they were thisclose last night!

Don't give up....

....the beginning is always the hardest!

Ain't that the truth!

My first run turned in to a walk - and I'm ok with that! It took me 8 minutes to get my butt out of bed. Door to door, I walked for a full 30 minutes. I jogged 4 times for about 5 seconds.

Some things I saw and realized:

1. I am not ready for C25K yet. But that's ok! I'll keep walking and jogging little bits till I'm ready!
2. There's a lot of traffic on my road at 7am.
3. I love my new long sleeve t-shirt! I might have to go buy more of them.
4. There's a lot of trash on my street - blah
5. I cannot imagine doing this in the summer. I might have to be a cold-weather exerciser
6. I LOVE NICKELBACK.... but I (and most of you) already knew that ;-)
7. My friends and family are super supportive! Thanks everyone!!
8. I Can Do This!

Part of my motivation to start doing this was that my friend, Jess, posted on another friend's Facebook page about a run called Run For Your Lives. It's tagline is "A Zombie Infested 5k Obstacle Course Race". Need I say more?

I always see Jess talking to other people about running and I know she has overcome some weight issues. If she can do it - why can't? And an added bonus - I can prepare for the Zombiepocalypse at the same time!

Here I Go!

I've had enough! I've been overweight for almost 10 years and I've had enough!

My plan - the Couch 2 5K program
My inspiration - me, my family, and this guy...

My plan is to share my journey here. Mostly for me - so that I can see how far I've come, so I can be accountable to something other than my head. And who knows, maybe I'll kick ass at this and inspire someone else to do the same.

Tomorrow morning, I jog!
